Can someone tell me why can't I install Optware on this router (buff WZR-HP-G300NH) ?
I get the error that my buf is not a broadcom device.
Does that mean I can't use Optware?
By the sub-forum of this thread I read that my buf is Atheros based. OK. what exacty does that mean? Can I get apps like the ones described in wiki?
JFFS/JFFS2 is like optware?

OK, then which extra apps can i install to an usb device (i prefer permanent mode, ie not having to set up start scripts that install everything every time the router starts) ?
I can't use Optware (i think).
what can I use?

I have no idea at the moment as I haven't had time to try out much.
The ddwrt web configuration interface seems very flakey on this build sometime hanging when applying configurations and not rebooting but going off line for about 3 minutes.
Another observation is the buffalos leds don't work properly like the wireless led always flashes at a constant on/off rate even if there is no wireless activity.

Maybe it can solve the problem.

About the wireless: it's true.
Another led issue: security LED is always off. could be configured to flash or stay always on according to firewall settings or wireless security settings like MAC allowance and WPA.
About the web interface. It must be some problem with your configurations. Mine works nice and smooth. Applies new settings in about 10 seconds and reboots in half minute.
Also best performance I've ever seen: 2 seconds go from clicking the 'connect' button on my window seven wireless connections list to being able to browse the web (on stock firmware it took about 10 seconds)
the only bad thing is that I'm not being successful in using Optware nor ipkg to get extra features.

Yea probably just because I'm changing settings wirelessly as lan seems to not be affected.
This router has 3 transmit and 3 receive antennas on the radio so maybe we could change the TX/RX antenna Chains to 1+2+3.
Have you played around with the TX Power? this router puts out nearly 900mW/30dBm on stock firmware.

Try setting your Regulatory Domain to United States and try again.

the showing speed is good, 130mb under mac osx, 300mb under windows, this is quite normal as mac doesn't allow the 40mhz channel width on 2.4g band.
but the actual speed is not so good as the stock firmware, this is even apparent when I use Lan port. I can get an 10MB+ speed when I connect to my nas unit, but now it is only 5MB max.
In fact I only need to read some of my usb hdd which is formatted with ntfs, I expected I can run samba or netatalk with this, but I was wrong, the package support is extremely poor due to there is only one openwrt package repository we can use, and most of the packages there could not be installed and working properly at all. I manage to load the built in kernel of ntfs.ko and xfs.ko to support my existing usb hdd though an sshfs filesystem mount. but I could only get 2MB speed(it used to be 10MB using stoking firmware, and its automouting and ejecting button works like a charm). So I am a little bit regret that I am too rush into this. hope my information could be useful for those who just want to try a new firmware.

Spot on.
The problem is with the connection speed and NAS and network drive sharing. Stock firmware always connected at 300Mbps, NAS had around 6MBps and LAN transfers were always over 10MBps. This is not the case with dd-wrt. Hope this gets fixed soon.

For anybody that's interested you can go back to stock firmware using exactly the same guide as flashing to ddwrt. I went back to the latest Buffalo firmware this morning with no problem at all.
As before stated ddwrt on this model is still very experimental and has problems installing optware packages, amoung other things, which is the main reason I changed the firmware in the firstplace.
So I'll keep it stock for the meantime and keep an eye out for future releases of ddwrt for our buffs.
BTW, Has anybody tried out OpenWRT on their Buffalo?

I don't know who, but I remember reading it somewhere on the foruns that someone tried it and OpenWRT was not working.
